This course is designed to provide utility operating personnel, power plant designers, and other interested parties with a basic understanding of the concepts, hardware and functions of fire protection as they apply to the electric power generating industry. This understanding is the starting point for providing and maintaining appropriate fire protection for power plants.

Module 2: Fire Prevention Practices

• Housekeeping and cleanliness procedures
• Proper storage of flammable materials
• Electrical safety practices
• Hot work permit procedures

Module 3: Fire Detection and Suppression Systems

• Types of fire detectors (smoke, heat, flame)
• Location of detectors based on hazard
