Mastering Hazardous Area Classification (HAC)
Course Description
In industries where flammable gases, vapor, and dust are present, a single spark can be catastrophic. "HAC in Practice" is an intensive, 5-day masterclass designed to move beyond theory and delve into the practical application of Hazardous Area Classification (HAC). This course provides a unified framework for safety, bridging the critical gap between plant design, instrumentation, and electrical installation. Participants will gain a deep understanding of international standards (IEC/NFPA/ATEX), learn to create and interpret area classification drawings, and specify and select the correct equipment for safe operation. Through a unique, multi-disciplinary approach and industry-specific case studies from various industries Chemical/Petroleum and Power Generation/Utilities sectors, this course equips you with the knowledge to design, maintain, and audit plants that are not only compliant but inherently safer.
The Training Course Will Highlight ?

To ensure all participants can fully benefit, a basic understanding of the following is recommended:

  • Fundamental principles of process engineering, instrumentation, or electrical systems.
  • Basic awareness of industrial safety concepts.
  • An engineering degree or equivalent technical work experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Training Objective

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Interpret and Applykey international standards (IEC 60079, NFPA 497/499, API RP 500/505).
  • Define and JustifyZones/Divisions and Temperature Classes for a given process material.
  • Create, Read, and CritiqueHazardous Area Classification Drawings (HACD).
  • Select and Specifyappropriate explosion-protected equipment for Instrumentation (e.g., Intrinsic Safety, Flameproof) and Electrical systems (e.g., Increased Safety, Pressurization).
  • IntegrateHAC principles into the plant lifecycle from design to decommissioning.
  • Developactionable strategies for inspection and maintenance of equipment in hazardous areas.
  • Mitigate Risksspecific to your industry, whether in a refinery or a coal-fired power plant.
